What do all the privacy options mean?
- View Privacy: This determines who can see the details of your item, but will not exclude the item from searches
- Comments Privacy: This determines who is allowed to post comments on your item
- Search Privacy: This determines whether your item will display in site searches and when Users browse
- Event and Group specific Privacy Options: Events and Groups both have specific privacy options only available when creating them. These should be fairly self-explanantory and deal with, for example how people can join groups or ask to take part in events
What do the actual privacy levels i can choose mean?
- Everyone: Anybody currently on the site including those without user accounts
- All Registered Users: Any user currently logged on to the network
- Only My Friends and Everyone within My Subnetwork: Any user you have added to your Friend List plus all users currently part of your Subnetwork
- Only My Friends and Their Friends Within My Subnetwork: Any user who is EITHER on your Friend List OR is a Friend of any of your Friends but is also themselves in your subnetwork
- Only My Friends: Any user you have added to your friend list
- Only Me: Only you can leave comments
- Nobody: This turns off commenting on the item
How can i stop people contacting me?
There are several ways to do this if it becomes necessary but your first port of call should really be asking them:
- If they are on your Friend List, remove them - this will remove some messaging, commenting and viewing privileges to your profile and created items
- If they are a member of a Group or Event you have created you can remove them, again changing their access privileges
- Block the user. This can be done through the Settings Menu and will prevent that user seeing any of your content
- In the last resort, contact the network administrator, we will investigate and if necessary remove their account and bar them from the network
Why are there two different menu bars?
There are two menu bars as they serve different purposes.
The Top menu bar is mainly for browsing everything that's available on the site, as well as general functions like getting Help, inviting friends to join the network and logging in and out.
The lower menu bar is for navigating your own content - albums you might have created, groups you might have joined and your profile and 'What's New?' pages.
How do I change settings in my applications?
Generally there are two types of settings for each application and most of the time these will be self-explanatory.The appropriate edit/settings links will also be obvious on the page.
The first type deals with your 'global' settings for that application such as notifying you when someone comments on something you have created. There won't always be global settings available as there are certain settings we'll apply across the whole site, for example to maximise your privacy, so don't be concerned if you don't seem to have any options available.
The second type deal with individual items (i.e. events, photo albums, groups, classified listings etc.) that you have created. These tend to deal with privacy settings for that item (see the FAQs on Privacy Options and Privacy Levels above for more details).
You'll be prompted to select from these when you create an item, but you can come back and amend them at any time.
What is the long bar at the bottom of the page for?
The long bar is an instant messaging interface for chatting with 'Friends' who are online at the same time as you.
You can see who is online (where it says 'Friends Online') and send short messages to them without logging in to the chatroom or using the more formal 'Messages' application.
You can also change your online status here by clicking on the little person icon in the bottom right-hand corner. This is useful if, for example, you do not wish to be disturbed.
